Susan A. Gardiner Tourgee

    Mrs. Susan A. Tourgee, widow of Thomas Tourjee [sic], passed away at her home in Allenton July 2, aged 83 yrs after a short illness.
    Susan A. Tourgee was born in this town the daughter of James and Ann (Harvey) Garniner [sic--Gardiner] and was one of a large family. She spent her early life in this town where she married Nehemiah Bicknell. By this union she had one son, Albert, who survives her. Later she married Thomas Tourgee, a veteran of the Civil war, and a prominent citizen of this town, who died a few years ago.
    Her funeral was held July 5 from the Allenton Baptist Church with Rev. Brown E. Smith officiating. During the services two selections were rendered by by Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
    Burial followed in Elm Grove Cemetery with John Northup, George Madison, Edward Arnold and Charles Sherman as bearers.
    Besides her son, Mrs. Tourgee was survived by five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Waity Hollis of Wickford and a brother, Mr. James Gardiner, of Narragansett Pier.
